Mealtime Blessing
Catholics often describe themselves as being a "Eucharistic people," which means a people who give thanks to God always. From Judaism we inherit the practice of remebering to give God thanks at our mealtimes. Below is a common mealtime blessing used by many Catholics. Many find it fruitful to add to this prayer the specific things for which they are thankful, as well as praying together as a family for people in need of our prayers.
Before the meal, while making the sign of the cross on yourself:
Bless us, O Lord, and these your gifts
which we are about to receive through your bounty,
through Christ our Lord.
Amen
or before the Amen you may add:
Lord, we thank you for all of your blessings especially for:
(mention what the family is thankful for)
And we ask you bless those who in need today especially:
(mention those who the family is praying for)
Amen. |
