Not able to our JustFaith Information Meeting…Maybe this will help?
Q: What is JustFaith?
A: It’s a 30-week program that is almost like a 101 course in social justice issues and Catholic social teaching (without the tests or papers!)
Q: Do I need previous knowledge of the subject?
A: All you need is an open heart and mind.
Q: What topics do you discuss?
A: JF takes an in-depth look at a wide-range of issues including poverty, racism, immigration, non-violence and environmental justice.
Q: Is there a lot of reading?
A: On average, there is about 75 pages of reading every week. Sounds like a lot BUT it is engaging, interesting and often, profoundly moving material.
Q: Is there opportunity for direct service?
A: JF ‘s goal is to expose participants to the root causes of social justice issues as well as the relationship between our personal and societal actions and these issues. There are several opportunities to engage first-hand with individuals dealing with relevant topics through on-site visits and guest speakers but there is no actual service component.
Q: I don’t know if I am ready to deal with all these depressing, complicated issues – what’s the point ?
A: We live in a complex and often overwhelming world. The problems often seem insurmountable; YET, if there is one thing JF teaches it is that individuals have the responsibility to understand how their personal actions affect others. What we buy, what we eat, where we shop have ramifications on everyone from our neighbor next door to the child thousands of miles across the globe. We are all interconnected. Each of us has the power to create positive change if we more fully understand how one action impacts another. JF helps connect the dots so we can see the picture and act.
Q: What role does faith have in all of this?
A: We are called as faithful Catholic Christians to not only serve one another but to walk with each other. By learning about the ways in which we are all connected our understanding of how we can respond to Christ’s call becomes ever more clear and undeniable. The core of JustFaith is prayer and Scripture. Its underpinnings are the extraordinary tenets of Catholic Social Teaching, papal directives and Vatican II documents.
