Family Faith Formation

2010-2011 Family Faith Formation program registration

We Have Family Masses Each Sunday. On the first Sunday of the month, our 8:30am & 10:00 Masses are geared for families to worship together; and our children’s choir sings at the 10am Mass. At the 8:30am and 10:00am Masses on the other Sundays of the month, the young children are invited to leave Mass together for an age-appropriate reflection on the Readings.

Church of the Presentation’s Faith Formation commits itself to close collaboration with families and the parish community.

Faith Formation Mission

Our mission is to foster life-long faith development for all ages.  We work to empower people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.

Church of the Presentation’s Family Faith Formation Program strives to provide an atmosphere where families—parents, children, and youth can experience God’s love and Word so that faith may become living, conscious, and active.  We look to the family, the “domestic church,” as the most important Christian influence since it is in the home that a child learns and experiences that faith.  Faith Formation sessions reinforce the traditions of that faith through interactive community experiences, while the parish supports the family in learning to celebrate that faith in community.  Church of the Presentation’s faith formation commits itself to a close collaboration with the family and the parish community to fulfill this mission.

Family Formation has proven itself to be the answer to the catechetical crisis of the past several decades. Based on the principle that "Parents are the primary educators in the Faith" (GDC 255), Family Formation revolves around once a month family gatherings at the parish and  home lessons, provided by the church, are worked on and discussed by parents with their children .

The monthly gatherings at the church are intergenerational sessions with 1-6 grade students and their parents.  Included in some of the sessions are grade-level peer breakouts with a trained catechist, while parents explore the same topic on their level.

These shared learning experiences spill over into the family's everyday life as they open the doors to discussion of the Catholic Faith and begin to live and breathe the life of the Church.
